Skincare: La Roche-Posay Rosaliac Review

The La Roche-Posay Rosaliac Range is not a particularly new range, but the newest addition the CC cream only launched in February and its taken me this long to get my thoughts together on this range. And my review is a bit of a mixed bag.

I attended the launch of the CC Cream which was at the Little Museum of Dublin. A good setting to chat about the "Curse of the Celts" or Rosacea. You can read more about it on Wiki. While I don't suffer from this chronic condition, I have had a bit of a hard time adjusting to the Irish climate after spending my first 27years living in Sunny South Africa. And discovering that I can get the same "warm-all-the-way-to-my-bones" if I sit in the sauna long enough hasn't done the blood vessels on my face any favours.

You see, I have been struggling with flushing. Not the bathroom kind. The kind where you are standing talking another mom outside the school and I feel a warmth starting from my boobs and rising quickly up my neck and turning my face into a steaming beetroot. And the attractiveness of the mom in question makes no difference. So while I haven't been diagnosed with the actual condition, I think I could give this range a good testing to see if it actually does what it claims.

So. The Rosaliac Range contains the revered French Thermal Waters as well as minerals and plant extracts that are supposed to strengthen the capillary walls to prevent them from dilating. And it does work, but only in conjunction some simple changes to your routine. Using the whole Rosaliac Range which includes a cleanser, serum, day cream and night cream will help. But you also need to avoid sudden temperature changes, especially in Winter when you have the heating turned up and its cold outside.Wrap a scarf around your face (your nose and cheeks) before you walk out the door to keep the cold off your skin.

Don't wash your face in the bath or the shower, the water is too warm. Wash your face in the sink instead, test the water with the inside of your wrist before you put it anywhere near your face. It should be warm, not hot. Don't scrub at your face, Use a dedicated makeup remover so that you don't have to scrub at your face. Try to avoid irritants in your cosmetics etc.

While the La Roche-Posay Rosaliac CC Cream is supposed to suit any skin tone, it is very warm toned and quite peach in colour. It tends to settle into my pores and just looks a bit... not right. It is also quite fragranced, which can be an irritant. Go figure. It gets a thumbs down for me, it may help cover redness, but you can see it on my skin. But if it suits your skin tone and you aren't fussed with scented products this might suit you.

The real stars for Rosacea sufferers are the serum, Rosaliac AR Intense, and any of the moisturisers.

La Roche-Posay Rosaliac AR Intense is immediately cooling on the skin. You feel like its doing what it is supposed to do immediately. And using it right after coming out of the sauna, it takes redness right down and my skin feels cooled and hydrated. I adore this. My flushes don't happen as often and when they do they are short-lived and don't make me uncomfortable.

La Roche-Posay Rosaliac UV Riche is a green tinged cream. And along with the serum it is cooling, soothing and sinks in quickly without leaving a film on my skin. The faint green tint also helps to counteract redness. My makeup applies like a dream over this and my skin feels hydrated without looking overly oily. Its a bonus that this variation on the cream contains SPF 15 and UVA protection. Perfect for winter days...Which is 90% of the year here in Ireland.

Now, the range, the whole range is at an accessible price point with the cheapest item being the cleanser coming in at €15.99 and the most expensive item which happens to be the serum which costs €23.99. And each item should last you at least 3 months if you are careful, but this is the kind of product that you will need to carry on using to keep up the results. This isn't a cure, but it is something that will help and will lessen the severity of the flushes... if you use it continuously.

My favourite product out of the whole Rosaliac range is the Micellar Cleansing Gel. Its so good it needs a post of its own though.

You can find any of these La Roche-Posay Rosaliac products in Boots stores or online.

  1. Interested to her what you have to say about this actually. My mother has been using the moisturiser and is due to report back to me on her findings, I think she's liked it though...
