Lets Talk Blog Challenge 1: A day in the life

The insanely beautiful and fantastic Sarah Hamersley from www.atthebeautydesk.blogspot.ie took on the task of orgainising another blog challenge. I am going to do my damnedest to actually finish this one.

As you can see its called the "Lets Talk Challenge", its not completely beauty based so I am looking forward to delving into the topics and sharing my thoughts on the topics Sarah has chosen. And today's topic is "A Day In The Life"..... of moi...

While my alarm goes off at 7:05am, I rarely hop out of bed at that insane time. Nope I use those quiet 40 to 45 minutes of peace (my kids think I am still sleeping) and I catch up on Instagram and go thru my twitter feed to catch up on the news. I am lucky enough that my husband gets up before me and starts the kids breakfast process. Its a bit of quality time that they get to spend with Dave before they start the day, then Dave comes up the stairs with my first cup of coffee of the day. I forgive him his few faults (leaving his shoes lying everywhere) because he does this for me every day.

I generally have my clothes chosen the night before and I leave them next to my bed so there is no faffing about getting ready in the mornings. I get dressed, wash my face, brush my teeth and get downstairs to make lunches and start cracking the whip to get the kids to school.

Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays are gym days for me if I don't have appointments. I am doing a kind of cross-training class that I am really loving. Moveit360 is a great all over work out, I am exhausted and properly sweaty afterwards, and being that I could do with dropping a bit of body fat and building a bit more muscle, this is working nicely for me. A quick 20 minutes in the pool completes my exercise. I love swimming and could happily spend most of my day frolicking in the pool pretending I was a mermaid if the other pool users didn't look at me like I was mad...

If I have time, I will come home and take pictures and start planning my posts for the next while. I have been very lazy over the last few weeks, I just haven't had the motivation to do anything, and while I am still struggling to sit down and write, I do try to post at least once a week.

By that time its time to fetch the first childerbeast from school and we get stuck into homework immediately so that its over and done and I don't have after dinner fights with kids who are too tired to add 6 + 7. I am in  lift club with a friend of mine who has 4kids, our oldest kids are in the same classes so we share lifts so that we don't have to make multiple trips down to the school. And its at this time that I get my Baby Loves in. This wee man is so flipping chilled and friendly he almost makes me broody. Almost.

We don't Skinny Dip.... We Chunky Dunk!

Then its 4pm and time to start the dinner. I am South African. We have lunch anytime after midday and dinner or supper is when you get home from work. I try to have dinner ready for Himself as he gets home at 6pm-ish. The kids are starting to get big enough that if they want to help they can, but generally they like to use that time to call for friends in our estate and they play outside (out from under my feet) until I call them in to eat.

A bit of play time with Daddy follows (normally with a Gaelic football so the kids can practice skills) and we try to have a family game or activity 2 or three times a week and on Sundays we watch a movie together.

7pm means bedtime prep, PJ's on, last programme watched, toys picked up and 15 or 20 minutes playing Minecraft with Dad, while I clean the kitchen and fold any washing or get a blogpost finished. 8pm brings story time and teethbrushing. Then bedtime kisses and I can relax.

The hubs and I settle on the sofa and get our TV on. At the moment we are watching season 3 of Justified and I am just loving US Marshal Raylan Givins' accent and his hat. I don't like Hats, but Timothy Oliphant can keep it on when he buys me a drink ;)

Bedtime for the adults follows fairly early. We are still catching up on our sleep after being very sleep deprived for the first 6yrs of my daughters life. We don't go straight to bed. We read. Get your mind out of the gutter... I am a big Sci-fi fan although I will read just about anything, often I will read and re-read books that I have really enjoyed.

My post is is going up a few minutes late tonight, but at least its up on the right night! I am looking forward to reading everyones posts tonight, and I am looking forward to next week too!

Thanks to Sarah for organising this and choosing a wide variety of topics! Check us out on Twitter using the #LetsTalkBlogChallenge

  6. Aw well thank you for that wonderful intro (you'll make me blush with your compliments) and I must say you seem to have a very hectic life so to be doing this challenge as well, I literally have no idea how you've found the time ;) And there's just something about a good book, no matter how many times you read it, you still enjoy it. I'm so delighted to see all these pictures and read about your family life so thank you for taking part and sharing ;) your family life looks and sounds just amazing.
