Best of Beauty Blogger Challenge: Makeup Must Haves

Week 3 of the Best of Beauty Blogger Challenge is MAKEUP!!!! Yeah Baby... As a beauty blogger, makeup plays a big part in our love of products. From Budget to Blow-out, everybody can find products that will suit your purse and fancy. These are mine.

I am of the foolish opinion that "more expensive doesn't mean more betterer". No, apart from the fact that my husband would have a series of small heart-attacks at my wishlist, I can't justify spending the better part of a weeks grocery money on a single product. So I go with what my conscience will allow: The best of what the Budget world has to offer and entering competitions to win the luxe stuff.

These are the bits I can't love without. All of them I will replace as soon as they run out. Some of them I have already replaced.... multiple times.

First up: Foundations and Primers

Rimmel Wake Me Up Foundation (around €10) in True Ivory, this is my third bottle. I love everything about it. Its not as shimmery as you would think and sets to a lovely finish. It doesn't need powder and gives enough coverage without looking heavy.
YoungBlood Liquid Mineral Foundation is rather pricey (€36), but a little goes a long way and it looks better and better the longer it is on the skin. It is mineral too, so its great for sensitive skin, its Cruelty free and comes in a load of colours. If can, I urge you to try this formula, its gorgeous.
The YoungBlood Mineral Primer (€32) is FABULOUS. Its smooth, velvety and lovely on the skin. I love this, even on its own, this gives a good moisture boost without making you shiny.

Blushes next:

Nars Orgasm ( I won this one) Gorgeous. The iconic blush that gives a lovely flush & shimmer to cheeks. I use this one on special occasions or when I need to feel special.
Wet 'n Wild (around €5) in Pearlescent Pink is the budget dupe for Nars Orgasm. I wear this every day that I don't wear Orgasm. Its not as shimmery as the Nars, but its still pretty especially for day wear.

Brushes:

A mix of super cheap and mid range, ELF, Avon, eBay and Real Techniques. Priced from €1.40 to €14, this is only a small part of my collection, but these are the ones I use most often.

 Mascara:

I generally don't spend big money on mascara. I find one that I like the look & price of and go with it. But this Mega Effects Mascara from Avon is from my Bestie in South Africa. Packaging is a bit Faffy, but it is a great formulation and the brush is pretty good as applying an even coat without clumping. Of course I can't get this in Ireland anymore so I'll get Trace to stock up on these for me so I can keep a stash.

 Lipsticks:

I am not one for Lipgloss. I haven't found one that doesn't catch every hair (not always my own) and doesn't leave a sticky residue on my lips. So I stick to Lipsticks.

Rimmel collaborated with Kate Moss on these and while I don't find Kate "massive", I like these lippies. They are around €6 and pigmentation, longevity & feel on the lips is great. Not massively moisturising, but they aren't drying and they don't smell bad.

NYC comes in even cheaper than Rimmel at around €2.99 a tube. Packing a Pigment punch, these are great value. A massive colour range to choose from means you will find a few that tickle your fancy, and they won't break the bank. A bit more glide on these than the Rimmel ones means that longevity isn't quite as good as Rimmel, but its pretty darn close.

Last but not least: Eyeshadows:

I have a good variety of budget brands in my stash, but Sleek just kicks it out of the park. 12 highly pigmented colours in a practical palette for €9.99. They have loads of palettes to choose from, but Storm, Au Natural & Vintage Romance are my favourites.  Cloud10Beauty.com is my go to place to shop the Sleek range and they are well worth checking out.

These are the things I would replace in a heartbeat if I finished them. I am looking forward to seeing what everybody else has listed as their must have as I am looking for new things to try.

Check out the #BOBBloggerChallenge tag on twitter to catch everybody else's posts tonight. And have a pen and paper hand to make your shopping/wish list!

Thanks again to Sam from All The Buzz for organising this challenge!

    1. Hi Cathy, Youngblood is a great brand and well worth the money! You only use a little bit so it will last you a long time!
You can still get in the UK, but Avon dropped the Irish Market like a hot potato, such a pity because they had some great products.

    1. I live close to the border and I know a few ladies that live in the North and do Avon and are willing to drop a brochure down every so often. I am not sure if Avon online would deliver to us anymore...

    1. The Avon Mascara is great, if a bit fiddly to use on the move, but it gives a great result and is worth looking for if you can!

  8. I've never heard of Youngblood before, I'll keep an eye for it. I haven't tried anything from Sleek yet but I'm liking the palettes you've featured. The Kate by Rimmel lipsticks are also one of my fave.

    1. I'm with you on over-priced cosmetics, I still think that there are budget brands that are doing products that are giving Luxe products a good run for their money. As far as I know Sam & Nic are still collaborating with Avon on a few bits & tutorials, but I may be mistaken.

  10. I really liked your post... I am always on the hunt for great primers and foundations... I do however have quite an oily t-zone do you think the young blood range would suit me? x

    1. I also have quite an oily T-zone Emma ad I find this is a great product, it does control oil to a certain extent, but I would set my t-zone with a powder to be extra sure it doesn't slide off my face in a hot environment!

  12. Hi Catherine! I think it is one of the nicest foundations I have used in a while, but the shade range is a bit of a let down as not everyone will find their perfect match.

  13. Lovely products! The brow and concealer products look really good, and the nail polish is such a pretty shade! I don't subscribe to Want able, but I do get Tipsy, which I've been really liking so far. :)
