Bepanthen: not just for baby bums

Ah.... a wee baby's bum. Its soft and smooth and you want to try and keep it that way, especially since it is mostly encased in a nappy for a lot of the time. Bepanthen Ointment is the one thing that I have not ever been without since having my kids. It is the miracle tube in our house because it gets used on everything. Scrapes, burns, itchy bits, chaffed bits, roasties, papercuts, raw noses, blisters, wind-burned faces, steam burns, tattoo maintenance etc.

Bepanthen is something that no mother, runner, father, tattoo artist, runner, aunty or first aid kit should be without.

I don't have small babies that need protection against nappy rash anymore. But I now have Evil Kenivels that need scrapes cleaned, kissed and healed. This works. I have a husband who does UFC training for fun and comes home with various scrapes and roasties. This works. Sniffle season is upon us again and noses that are rubbed raw from tissues love, love, love this rich thick moisturising ointment.

Panthenol and almond oil are the winning ingredients in Bepanthen. Panthenol helps the skin to heal, and prevents scarring. Almond oil is intensely moisturising. And while I am not a fan of putting mineral oil or petrolatum products on my face, when my poor nose is sore, red and raw even after using balsam tissues, there is nothing more soothing than slathering a layer of the ointment before bed and knowing that I will wake up with near perfect skin in the morning.

Sore, chapped, wind-bitten lips will love how soothing this is, even if the taste is a bit iffy. Nasty (say it like Chris Rock would say it: Nnnnnaaasteeee and do a little head-shake too!) cuticles are significantly softened overnight after an application of bepanthen that has been rubbed in before bed. Yes it is thick and oily and unctuous, but these are the things that make this ointment great and protecting delicate, sensitive skins that need a healing hand.

Just a caution: My daughter has eczema and while Bepanthen Ointment should be perfect for her, she is sensitive to petroleum based products so I can't use this on her, which is such a pity as it is such an awesome product.

Bepanthen is sold in tubes of 30g, 50g and 100g and retail between €2,50 for the small tune to around €9 for the big tube and you can find it in any pharmacy, Boots and some grocery stores.

** This specific tube was a  PR Sample, my tubes are too squished and ugly to photograph :)
